Downtown Los Angeles, California shopping plaza.
300 N Main St, Los Angeles, CA 90032, United States
The Los Angeles Mall, opened in 1974 at the Civic Center, was designed by Stanton & Stockwell as a civic “town square.” Once the site of early commercial blocks, it includes plazas, a parking garage, and public art like Joseph Young’s "Triforium" and Millard Sheets’ mural "The Family of Man". Landscape architects Howard Troller and others contributed to its greenery and layout, including the pedestrian bridge over Temple Street, featuring design elements by artist Tom Van Sant. Though once a hub for civic life, the mall has suffered from neglect and changing urban conditions, becoming a refuge for unhoused individuals by the 2010s.
